Dislikes:Output level is pretty low, even pay day loans for a "mic-level" signal. Low quality mic inputs really struggle to bring the level back up without adding a lot noise. A slightly lower transformer ratio would be a very welcome improvement. Knob on top makes it hard to stick in a toolbag pocket. But it also makes it easy to use. Can't have it both ways.
No markings for volume max and min. Most of the time, it really doesn't matter, just turn up or down to suit. Easy enough to add some marks with a silver sharpie. I bought this one for my friend who isn't terribly technically-inclined, and it works like a charm for him.
It's a quality, heavy-duty-feeling piece of gear, and has performed flawlessly. Most of the time I need to patch in someone's laptop or phone into the mixer.
I paired this with a 25' XLR and just tell people to just plug into this and control their own volume. Such a simple option and it keeps them from touching the levels on my board.
The build quality is great but if you are buying this spend a little bit more and get the one with the lift switch. Ground hum only happens when the connected device is on AC power. Cell phones and other battery powered objects are fine. Is is not a fault of the adapter but how electricity works in general. Better to have and not need than be in my situation and wish you got the other one. Put one in every break out room, or at the tech table in a general session.
Into my board, or direct house patch, both work great. Mic level output, balanced XLR. It sums to mono, but for a breakout or small session for BGM or powerpoint video it's perfect. The volume knob gives me (or the client) local control of the volume, easy to grab quick to turn up or down the sound locally - perfect for a house patch situation in a break out where you don't have control. Great Quality, wish there was a direction and lines for the level set.
I also own other similar items from other pay day loans manufacturers. This adapter is perfect for tying in any PC computer, iPod, iPad or similar devise to a pro audio sound system and works like a charm at doing so.
Rapco Horizon is a good company that makes quality products here in the USA. I also have the other model from Rapco listed below with the ground lift switch. It's kind of a nice feature to have.
